The project "I am a Wonder of Integration" is a long term project starts on July 2011 and consists of different steps. It is based on integration and adaptation issues that includes public aktions, drawing book series, interviews and related side products and events such as hand made t-shirts, music albüms and concerts.
There are two related approaches to Integration issue in this project: Research and questioning of Integration strategies for immigrants and visa topics in the frame of the relationship between Turkey and Germany, And the second is taking integration and adaptation concepts in the frame of everyday life -such as adapting from one situation to another so many times during the day in multicultural urban life- in order to carry the issue from the level of the relationship of the states to a personal-individual aspect.
The first public aktion held in Mauer Park Flea Market in Berlin on 10-07-2011. Mauer Park is a big flea market that run by Turkish people. Local people as well as immigrants sell their hand made products or their any kind of old stuff there. Besides it is such a place that huge amount of people comes to spend all sunday in the park also with karaoke contest, live music and biking, sports etc.
Simply it was opening a portrait stand in the flea market as a temporary immigrant portrait painter. The the banner on the stand says: I am a wonder of integration. I came here to leave again. Here is your portrait in 3 min. The idea was being face to face with local people as well as immigrants and tourists for 3 minutes.
I positioned myself as a nomad immigrant who is travelling periodically and integrating to different environments, people and mentalities. Today we are in a period that even middle class people from different professions started to travel often around the world mostly for work in the global system. Nevertheless nationalist policies put new borders between people and the countries. While states fail on integration policies for immigrants, and ...
